Jarvis Vaughan, a forward prospect out of the 2018 class who previously verbally committed to the Old Dominion Monarchs, will instead join Massanutten Military Academy for the upcoming season. The academy will be used as a post-graduate stop for Vaughan.
To summarize the change: Vaughan and Old Dominion both knew the forward would likely redshirt this season when he hit campus. Instead of swallowing a season by not being able to play in live action for the Monarchs, it appears everyone involved agreed he’d be best served going to a postgrad school.
“It allows you to mature a lot more,” Vaughan said. “It’s going to be a little rough in the beginning with all the military stuff, but I feel like once I get in the groove of everything it will blow by fast and my time there will be done and it will be time to go to ODU. It’s just part of the grind. If you love something you’ll go through all the little ups and downs and the bumps.”
Last season for Lee High, Jarvis Vaughan averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per outing, resulting in numerous awards being bestowed upon him, including being named to the Virginia High School League’s all-state basketball first team.
An intriguing player who has flown relatively under most radars, Vaughan has stated he remains committed to Old Dominion despite of this switch.
