Isaac Johnson, a four-star big man prospect out of the 2019 recruiting class, has committed to play for the Oregon Ducks. This news was broken on Twitter by Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten.
It’s certainly worth noting he has a two-year mission he’s going to complete before joining the program. So, while he’s technically a member of the 2019 recruiting class, he won’t be joining the Oregon Ducks until 2021.
Not only do all reputable recruiting service outlets have Isaac Johnson pegged as a four-star caliber recruit in the 2019 recruiting class, but most agree he’s one of the 100 best in the entire thing.
This is a sneaky solid get for Oregon outside of the obvious landing of a four-star caliber player. By getting a kid who will hit campus as a (presumed then) man, and as only a freshman at that point, it does allow for some longer term planning by the program.
Basically, the Oregon Ducks should have a mostly matured big man hitting campus, as a freshman, in three years. It sounds relatively dumb to make that a big deal, but it is.
