Despite earning the victory, the Auburn Tigers were only able to score 67 points against the (now) 1-7 UNC Asheville Bulldogs. According to head coach Bruce Pearl, the offense is a bit of a concern at the moment.
“I think they did it a little bit tonight, but the thing they (did) do is they always guarded,” Pearl said, via The AP. “They always guarded and rebounded and gave great effort on the defensive end but offensively, we weren’t as sharp. We weren’t as precise.”
It’s a message about playing down to their level of opponent. UNC Asheville isn’t exactly a world-beater, after all.
That being said, Pearl would later admit how the Auburn Tigers would have to be better in their next game, as a figurative Mike Tyson awaits.
“We’re going to have to play much tougher against Dayton, because they’re going to come here and hit us in the mouth,” said Bruce Pearl.
Following the victory, Auburn improves to 7-1 on the season. The team’s only loss came to the highly thought of Duke Blue Devils back in late November, when the Tigers only lost by six points.
