In what is starting to feel like an instant, Texas Tech Red Raiders coach Chris Beard has turned his college basketball program into one that’s nationally relevant.
Following a win over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, improving their record to 15-1 on the season, Beard began giving voice to his program’s rise.
“We’re building something special in Lubbock,” Chris Beard said, via The AP. “We won’t apologize for it.”
Funny enough, Texas Tech entered the game motivated by a drought in Austin.
“We might have mentioned (the losing streak),” Texas Tech coach Chris Beard said.
“Coach told us it was 30 years,” Matt Mooney said.
Up next for the Texas Tech Red Raiders is a tough Big 12 contest against the Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State fell over the weekend, leaving the Cyclones in a rather tough spot. It’ll be a game of a budding program facing one with a sense of urgency. Should be a good one.
Editor’s note: This post has been updated to reflect Beard was referring to the losing streak in Austin.
