When the Louisville Cardinals moved on from Rick Pitino, hiring Chris Mack to take his place, most assumed it would take at least one season before the program returned to the NCAA Tournament.
Those assumptions were wrong, as the Cardinals exceeded expectations in 2018-19, and are now set to begin dancing in a wonderful March Madness setting.
As for Chris Mack, when asked about pretty much everything that happened when he was brought in to replace Pitino, he let his players know that all the issues that surrounded the program had nothing to do with them. Moreover, that the players could fix the program quickly.
“It’s no secret that when I took over there wasn’t the greatest light around the program,” Mack said. “I told our players in the very beginning when I met with them that they weren’t the cause for it, but they could certainly be the cure for it. I think anybody that’s watched us play this year, I’ve asked our players to be this way.”
The Louisville Cardinals, a program expected to be one of the better teams in the country next season, begin their NCAA Tournament voyage on Thursday.
