The Duke Blue Devils fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday. Of course, the story of the game was Duke being without Zion Williamson, who is now expected to return for the ACC Tournament.
It was a relatively strange game, as North Carolina had control for the majority of it, with Duke making runs in spurts. However, it was never enough for the Blue Devils, as the experience-heavy Tar Heels were able to overcome the runs.
After the game, Coach K didn’t use the absence of Williamson as an excuse, but did use his postgame platform to discuss how proud of his players he is, even in a loss.
“We were down by 15 and we put ourselves in a position where we had a chance,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “I’m proud of the fact that our guys put us in that position. … We’ll be OK if we keep doing that.”
The Duke Blue Devils are obviously two different teams. One of the very best in the nation with Williamson. The other, still featuring multiple first-round NBA Draft picks, is still excellent, but nearly as overwhelming.
Coach K, regardless of Zion’s future, does need to do some tinkering in case the Williamson-less version of the Blue Devils is needed come the NCAA Tournament.
