South Carolina Gamecocks coach Frank Martin is not a man known to mince words. Following yet another loss on Thursday evening, this time to a very good Tennessee Volunteers team, Martin waxed poetic about his team’s lack of toughness.
And, yes, being tough is obviously important to him.
“We’ve got to get tougher,” South Carolina coach Frank Martin said. “It hurts my soul that we’re not a tougher team. That goes against everything I stand for, but those are the kids we’ve got. They’re trying real hard. I’m real proud of them and we’ve got to keep working to get better there.”
The man’s soul is hurt.
To be fair, if you only read the first part of the quote, he did go on to say how proud he was of his players. This wasn’t a Tom Crean-like situation.
With the loss, the South Carolina Gamecocks dropped to 12-12 on the season. Somehow, they are 7-4 in a very good SEC.
