Corey Davis scored a career-high 31 points to help the Houston Cougars defeat the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday. After the game, Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson wanted the nation to know just how good his senior guard happens to be.
“Corey Davis is the best two-way player in this league, plays both ends with the same voracity,” Sampson said. “Corey’s been consistently good. He never had a bad practice, never had a bad game.”
The victory resulted in Houston winning the AAC regular season crown, an accomplishment that would seem unfathomable if you asked a college basketball fan just a few years ago.
“At no point in time this year did I think we were a great team, but I thought we were a pretty good team and it showed on the road,” said Sampson, who had a white towel draped over the back of his soaked blue shirt.
On the season, Corey Davis is averaging nearly 17 points per contest. It’s also certainly worth noting he shoots 39 percent from beyond the arc, an incredibly solid number given he attempts 7.5 of those per game.
Next up for the Houston Cougars is the AAC Tournament.
