Don’t look now, but it appears the Iowa Hawkeyes are the state’s unofficial champions, as the program defeated the Iowa State Cyclones and Northern Iowa Panthers in back-to-back games. It is certainly worth noting those two wins came after to straight losses against Big Ten competition.
Nevertheless, after defeating Northern Iowa on Saturday, Iowa admitted its focus is on growing every single day.
“This is about getting better every day. That’s our challenge moving forward,” Tyler Cook said via The AP. “Regardless of who we’re playing, every time we step on the court we’ve got to get better.”
Cook had himself a quality game on Saturday, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for the now 8-2 Iowa Hawkeyes.
“Cook is playing about as well as anybody in the country. There can’t be but a handful of guys in the country doing all that he does for their basketball team,” Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson said.
Iowa has a relatively quick turnaround, as the Hawkeyes are set to play the Western Carolina Catamounts on Tuesday. After that, it’s two more non-conference games before their Big Ten schedule begins in earnest.
