The Iowa State Cyclones picked up yet another huge win on the season by knocking off the No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road on Wednesday night.
Steve Prohm’s group notched a 68-64 victory, as they snapped a two-game losing streak following their big win over the Kansas Jayhawks back on Jan. 5.
And Marial Shayok believes that it was a sense of togetherness that allowed the Cyclones to get back on track.
Here’s what he had to say about the huge win, courtesy of the Associated Press:
“We played with a sense of urgency and played together,” said Shayok, who was almost right on his Big 12-leading scoring average of 19.8 points. “Nobody cared who got the shots or who scored. We just played good defensively also and it was a great team effort.”
Expectations were high for the Cyclones coming into the season, and these two signature Big 12 wins will play a big part in Iowa State potentially having a shot at a regular season title.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier over the next week, with Shayok and company set to host the Oklahoma State Cowboys before road trips to take on Kansas and the Ole Miss Rebels in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
