Jaykwon Walton, a four-star guard prospect out of the 2019 recruiting class, had committed to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs over the weekend. However, according to Evan Daniels, he reportedly backed off his commitment already.
He was the first pledge of Mississippi State’s 2019 class, but that’s obviously not the case anymore.
It is important to note that Walton is considered a top-70 prospect according to most reputable recruiting service websites. When did commit the Bulldogs, he chose them over several other prominent college basketball programs such as Florida, Georgia, Memphis and a handful of others.
As for why he originally committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Jaykwon Walton opened up to recruiting guru Evan Daniels over at 247:
“Mississippi State and it just had a lot to do with my mom and it’s a great school and I feel like I can reach my dreams from there,” Walton said..
“They are great coaches,” he added. “They’ll put you in the right position to succeed. They are going to make me a better person on and off the court.”
It doesn’t yet appear like anyone knows what happened. It could just be a young person having jitters. It happens. A member of the 2019 class, he still has time to figure out what’s next.
