Jeff Capel is no stranger to having a college basketball roster full of freshmen. In fact, the Pittsburgh Panthers coach might be as equipped to deal with it as anyone else in the country.
Following a win over the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday evening, Capel expanded upon the idea his roster will grow through growing pains.
“They’ve all played well, but they’re freshmen,” Capel said via The AP. “They’ve been up and down. They’ve had moments where they looked really good. They’ve had other moments when they’ve looked like freshmen. Tonight was a night where they all looked pretty good.”
Three of Pitt’s top four scorers are freshmen. Of course, it’s certainly worth noting Capel has already done a tremendous job of bringing solid talent back to the program. Furthermore, as the Panthers improved to 9-3 on the season, the type of freshmen he’s bringing in should remain in a Pitt uniform for at least a few seasons.
Basically, without trying to jump the gun too much, Jeff Capel has already done what Kevin Stallings only made worse.
College basketball can be funny like that.
