Former NBA All-Star Jerry Stackhouse has agreed to a six-year deal to be the new head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores. This news was reported by ESPN. He was most recently an assistant in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Vanderbilt fired Bryce Drew after its 2018-19 college basketball season was over, leaving many wondering what the deal was.
However, with this hiring, the narrative should shift.
Jerry Stackhouse, aside from being a man who should not be trifled with, is a respected coach in many circles. He was Coach of the Year in the NBA’s G-League (then the D-League), and is considered by many as a guy who is great at developing younger talent.
It’s also worth noting he has some AAU connections, as he had his own team, and he’s even mentored current Los Angeles Lakers forward Brandon Ingram.
At some point in the near future, CBB Today will have our thoughts on the Vanderbilt Commodores hiring Jerry Stackhouse as the program’s new head coach.
