Kira Lewis, one of the nation’s best point guard prospects, has committed to play for Avery Johnson and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Furthermore, originally a member of the 2019 recruiting class, he has reclassified to join Alabama’s 2018 crop of incoming freshmen.
Considering there’s less than three weeks from kids hitting campus, the news is relatively shocking, but not unprecedented. Aundre Hyatt recently did the same with the LSU Tigers.
Most reputable recruiting service websites have yet to adjust Lewis’ rankings to reflect his reclassification, but he was previously considered one of the 10 best point guards in the 2019 class. Despite quickening his move to collegiate hoops, he’s still projected to be an impact player from the day he hits campus.
This is good news for the Alabama Crimson Tide. With the Kentucky Wildcats, as well as the aforementioned LSU Tigers, all expected to do great things in the SEC, Johnson needs as much talent on his roster as humanly possible. Naturally, Kira Lewis is going to help with that.
Lewis is a nifty, creative point guard who will likely be best used distributing the ball to others and playing the sort of defense that will result in him being one of Johnson’s favorite players.
