The Memphis Tigers are reportedly continuing their pursuit of highly-coveted five-star 2019 forward Trendon Watford. Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten relayed the news that Memphis would be in on Saturday to see the young man.
It’s no secret that Penny Hardaway and his staff have made the 6-foot-9 power forward a top priority in next year’s class, and it appears that they’re trying to keep him well aware of that with another visit.
According to 247Sports, Watford ranks as the No. 5 power forward and No. 27 player overall in the 2019 class.
And it’s clear that Memphis is the favorite to land him, as the 247Sports Crystal Projections have the Tigers at 67 percent while the Alabama Crimson Tide are the next closest at 25 percent.
Landing Watford would give Memphis yet another dominant playmaker for next season.
Hardaway has received a commitment from James Wiseman – the nation’s top prospect – and has signed letters of intent from 4-star forward D.J. Jeffries and 3-star center Malcolm Dandridge.
No matter where Watford winds up, it’s obvious that Hardaway has the Tigers set to take a big leap forward.
