The Michigan Wolverines managed to defeat the Illinois Fighting Illini on Thursday evening, improving their record to 16-0. One of the last remaining undefeated teams in the nation, everything appears to be coming up John Beilein and company.
After the game, however, a few players spoke on the team’s current situation. More specifically, discussing how the Wolverines are operating with a target on their back.
“It’s hard to be undefeated,” Zavier Simpson, who scored 16 points, said. “I mean, we want to keep going. I’d say we’re happy but not satisfied, if that makes sense.”
“I’m feeling very fortunate,” Michigan coach John Beilein said. “I know we got the win, but this is a good league and Illinois is going to be a very good team.”
The Michigan Wolverines might be one of the more balanced teams in the entire nation. While arguments can be made that the Duke Blue Devils have more overall talent, it feels pretty safe to call both the Wolverines and Tennessee Volunteers the two teams with the most well rounded out rosters.
Obviously, per college basketball law, time will tell what team last longest come March.
