Max Christie, a five-star prospect out of the 2021 recruiting class, has been offered a scholarship by the Big Ten’s Minnesota Golden Gophers. This news was relayed on Twitter by Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten.
It’s obviously smart for Richard Pitino to attempt to get on the recruit’s good side now, even if this early, as nearly every quality program in the country will want Christie to play for them when he’s eligible in a couple of years.
As for Max Christie, not only do all reputable recruiting service outlets have him pegged as a five-star caliber prospect, but most tend to agree he’s one of the 13 (or so) best players in the entire 2021 recruiting class.
Since his recruiting class won’t be hitting campuses in earnest until a couple of years, he will obviously have time to decide what is best for him. Furthermore, the NBA Draft rules — the famed one-and-done restriction — could be different come 2021 (though, some believe that might not come until 2022).
Nevertheless, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are attempting to land a quality recruit. Only time will tell how that goes.
