New Mexico Lobos head coach Paul Weir is starting to muster plans for outside the basketball program, looking to the basketball facilities as a place of innovative thinking.
Basically, Weir would like to repurpose some of the unused suites in Dreamstyle Arena. Fans call that area he’s looking to have a makeover ‘The Pit.’
In a project that would cost the program some capital outlay money the program already has for facility upgrades, as well as Weir needing to ask boosters for a lot more help to fund the project, he’d like to change those rarely used suites into offices for the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
“The Pit is terrific,” Paul Weir said, via Tuscon.com. “It has a lot of open, creative spaces with a lot of opportunity that quite frankly just sits there year-round. . There’s a lot of potential at the Pit to really redesign our space.”
The Dreamstyle arena was renovated in 2009 for roughly $60 million. The suits Weir is talking about was, at the time, a key part of the renovation — though, it is certainly worth noting that only half of the 40 are sold on average each season since the inception of the suites.
The New Mexico Lobos have yet to decide a single thing about this potential project yet. CBB Today will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
