Jonathan Salazar, a three-star power forward prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, has committed to play for the Pacific Tigers.
Only a three-star, the news might seem unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but Salazar is a good prospect who was recruited by major programs for great reason. Prior to committing to the Tigers, he was considering offers from Colorado, Oregon State, UCSB, Utah Valley and Utah State.
A 6-foot-6 power forward, if he was a few inches taller, Salazar would have likely been recruited by even more power programs. Basically, the only reason he’s a three-star is his height, as everything else from a talent standpoint screams four-star caliber player.
An explosive athlete, Jonathan Salazar fits the mold of an undersized big man. A grit and grinder with broad shoulders, most tout his toughness and work ethic as reasons to project success for him at the collegiate level. Obviously, all of that is relatively speaking.
Nevertheless, the Pacific Tigers got one of the program’s best commitments in years. Only time will tell how much of an impact it has on the program’s trajectory, it does provide the fan base for optimism moving forward.
