Memphis Tigers coach Penny Hardaway is already taking the college basketball world by storm on the recruiting trail, but his work isn’t done just yet.
As CBBToday’s own Joseph Nardone cautioned for Forbes, the former NBA talent will need to parlay the recruitment success with actual wins for it to mean longer term success.
Nevertheless, the hype surrounding Memphis heading into the 2019-20 college basketball season is very real, and none of this is lost on the Tigers head coach. Furthermore, as expectations begin to mount, Hardaway says they’re ready.
“That’s what we want,” Penny Hardaway said, by way of the Commercial Appeal. “You know, this is Memphis. We don’t bluff. We want all the smoke. We want everything. We want everything to be about Memphis. … If we want to win and hang our first banner in this building — or especially downtown at FedExForum — we are going to have to get talent, and with talent comes expectations and that’s what we want. That puts us in the conversation.”
Hardaway continued to say all the right things, correlating being part of the program as being part of the area, which is a vital aspect to anyone who wants to succeed with a school that has a communal approach like the Memphis Tigers.
