Zed Key, a four-star prospect out of the 2020 college basketball recruiting class, has been extended a scholarship offer by the Pittsburgh Panthers.
A big man prospect out of Glen Head, New York, other notable programs like the Florida Gators and Cincinnati Bearcats are eyeing the young man. Back in February, the Seton Hall Pirates offered the talented youngster a scholarship.
It’s certainly worth noting that not all reputable recruiting service outlets have four stars attached to his name. Some have Zed Key currently pegged as a three-star prospect, and even a few (such as 247Sports) have him outside their top 200 boards.
Apparently, this has a lot to do with his projected collegiate position and size. Standing 6-foot-7, a few outlets believe Key will play center when he hits the collegiate scene. If he were a few inches taller, he’d for sure be at least a four-star prospect (if that is what’s currently holding him back).
Nevertheless, the Pittsburgh Panthers are high enough on him to offer Key a scholarship. At the end of the day, that matters more than the number of stars attached to a kid’s name.
