The Chris Mullin era that’s coming off an NCAA Tournament trip might already be over for the St. John’s Red Storm. According to multiple reports, the former Johnnies star is likely to step down from his position.
It’s also important to note that Arizona State Sun Devils head coach Bobby Hurley is expected to be the Red Storm’s top target when this all goes down. It could be argued this would actually be an upgrade for St. John’s.
Oddly enough, athletic director Mike Cragg issued a statement of support on Saturday morning, “Chris Mullin is our head coach and we are not looking for another head coach.” It doesn’t appear as though those kind words were enough.
As for the Hurley-St. John’s connection, it’s real and it goes beyond him being thought of as a northeastern type of fellow. Hurley played at Duke, where Cragg spent 31 years before being hired at St. John’s in September.
If/when this becomes official, we will keep you up-to-date on whatever is happening with Chris Mullin.
