According to a report from the Houston Chronicle, the Texas A&M Aggies won’t be bringing back head coach Billy Kennedy next season. That is the polite way of saying he’s being let go.
It’s worth noting, at least according to the report, that Kennedy will coach whatever remains for his team’s season.
Now in his eight season with the school, Billy Kennedy did bring Texas A&M to two NCAA Tournament appearances, both of those resulting in trips to the Sweet Sixteen. The 55-year-old head coach is often praised for his professionalism.
However, that alone appears to not be enough.
The Texas A&M Aggies do play on Wednesday night. If this report is not addressed directly by the school before then, fully expect some sort of semi-official announcement from the coach himself after their league tournament game.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Billy Kennedy is 150-115 in eight years at College Station.
