Even after all these years it appears Tennessee Volunteers head coach Rick Barnes still knows how to reach college basketball players.
Kyle Alexander scored 14 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a victory against the Missouri Tigers on Tuesday. An impressive night for the youngster, it comes roughly a week after Barnes gave him a motivational speech, telling him only to concentrate on defense and rebounding.
“He’s telling you everything you don’t want to hear, but you need to hear,” Alexander said of his talk with Rick Barnes via The AP. “Those are kind of like the father-son meetings, the talks with your dad. They’re beneficial, but you don’t always want to hear what he has to say.”
While Admiral Schofield scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Grant Williams only scored four. It actually highlights how balanced a team Barnes has at his disposal. It is becoming increasingly clear that the Vols are one of the very best teams in the nation (something we already knew, really).
With yet another win, the Tennessee Volunteers improved to 13-1 on the season.
