The SMU Mustangs have landed the services of Darius McBride. A rising guard in the 2019 recruiting class, most reputable recruiting service websites currently have the 6-foot-4 talent pegged as a three-star prospect.
While not as touted as a four-star player or anyone ranked within the top-100, McBride has garnered a lot of interest from plenty of big programs the last few months. While the SMU Mustangs appear to be the biggest, quality mid-major programs like Stephen F. Austin were also in the hunt.
From the majority of accounts, as well as evident through Brown recruiting him, Darius McBride is also an excellent student. While that might not seem like a huge deal, give SMU’s sorted history with NCAA shenanigans, it certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s also bringing that to the table.
What will be interesting to see, at least moving forward, is how much SMU plans to use him right off the bat. A relative late riser in recruiting boards, rare are the three-star players asked to make an immediate impact as freshmen.
Then again, there’s good reason the SMU Mustangs went after him so strongly.
