Anastasia Hayes, last season’s SEC Sixth Woman of the Year as a freshman, has reportedly been dismissed by the Tennessee Lady Vols.
Trey Wallace of The Read Optional and Fox Sports Knox Daily reported the news on Twitter on Friday morning. According to Wallace, after a meeting with athletic director Phillip Fulmer, Hayes was dismissed from the program for violating team rules.
At the time of this writing, no official statement has been released by the university or the Lady Vols as a program.
Last season, Anastasia Hayes averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 assists in 24.5 minutes per game.
Coming out of high school, she was ranked as one of the 10 best players in her entire class by nearly all reputable recruiting service websites.
Obviously, if the report is true, this is a huge loss for the Lady Vols. Hayes was a good player as a freshman and many expected her to develop into a star for the program — sooner rather than later.
For now, anything else said would be conjecture. As this story develops, and/or if Tennessee releases a statement on Wallace’s report, we will keep you updated.
