Chet Holmgren, a four-star big man prospect out of the 2021 college basketball recruiting class, has been offered a scholarship by the Tennessee Volunteers. This news was relayed to the masses on Twitter by Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten.
Rick Barnes toyed with the idea of leaving Tennessee for the UCLA Bruins this offseason, but after some money went sideways and buyouts weren’t realistic for the Pac-12 program, the Vols kept their man.
Other programs are also after his services. From Minneapolis, the youngster is being pursued by the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Purdue Boilermakers and Texas Longhorns, just to name a few.
Not only do most reputable recruiting service outlets have Chet Holmgren pegged as a four-star caliber player, but most tend to agree he’s one of the 45 (or so) best players in the entire 2021 recruiting class.
With his recruitment cycle still a few years away from taking place in earnest, don’t expect the big to make any declarations in the immediate future. He has plenty of time to weigh his options, especially since each program might look drastically different by the time he’s eligible to play on the collegiate level.
Only time will tell if the Tennessee Volunteers can land the talented young man.
