DJ Steward, a four-star prospect out of the 2020 recruiting class, will be visited by members of the Texas Longhorns. It will actually be Shaka Smart, as well as an assistant coach who will check in on the young man on Saturday at his home. This news was relayed on Twitter by Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten.
Back in January, the program offered the youngster a scholarship. This is obviously a move to make sure he realizes he’s still a top target for the Longhorns.
A 6-foot-1 point guard prospect out of Chicago, plenty of programs are after Steward’s services. Naturally, Illinois-based programs like the DePaul Blue Demons are eyeing him, as are other schools such as the Creighton Bluejays, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Florida Gators.
Not only do all reputable recruiting service outlets have DJ Steward pegged as a four-star caliber recruit, but most tend to agree he’s one of the 110 (or so) best players in the entire 2020 recruiting class.
As for the Texas Longhorns, it will be interesting to see how they do on the recruiting trail given all the speculation about Smart’s job security. A good run in the 2019-20 season is needed regardless.
