The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday evening. After the game, Red Raiders head coach Chris Beard used his platform to compare college basketball — more specifically, the Big 12 — to prizefighting.
“I’m just really happy for our players,” coach Chris Beard said via The AP. “The Big 12 is like an 18-round fight, so our objective is just to give ourselves a chance every night, and I thought our guys did.
“I think we won the game with our ball-handling. We only had three turnovers in the second half. We made them turn it over a little bit more than normal, and then we took care of the ball in the second half. I thought that’s where the basketball game was won or lost.”
The Texas Tech Red Raiders only won by three, so Beard isn’t wrong by the lack of turnovers seriously helping his team. Jarrett Culver scored all 18 of his points in the final 20 minutes to help the Red Raiders win their version of a prizefight.
Up next for the Big 12 school is a game against the Kansas State Wildcats.
