Kelvin Sampson and the Houston Cougars have taken the 2018-19 college basketball season by storm. If you ask the head coach, however, you’d have a hard time finding the specific reason for success.
Well, outside of someone on Houston always being hot at just the right time.
On Sunday, the Cougars defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats to improve to 23-1 on the season. After the game, Sampson tried to explain Houston’s offense, but more so gave credit to his entire roster for staying ready.
“To win as many games as we have, you have to win so many different ways,” Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. “I don’t know offensively if there’s a constant with us. If there is a constant, it’s that there is somebody that steps up.”
The Houston Cougars only scored 65 points in the win, relying on their defense to defeat the Bearcats instead.
With Selection Sunday hurling at us at the speed of a locomotive, it will be interesting to see where Houston ends up getting seeded if they finish the season without anymore hiccups.
