After breaking a few year drought, Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans are back dancing in the Sweet 16 portion of the NCAA Tournament.
As it usually is with an Izzo coached team, defense paved the way for the Spartans to reach this point in the season. Oddly enough, even the head coach is slightly surprised by how well his players have done at deterring shots this season.
“We led the conference in blocked shots, and I keep saying, who’s doing it? Jaren (Jackson) coming back as a ghost or what? It’s been strange,” coach Tom Izzo said. “So that was a stat that blew me away that was a really important stat last year, and I didn’t think it would be one this year.”
In theory, if the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines each win their next two games, the rivals could meet in the Final Four this season. It would certainly be a battle of great defense.
First, though, the Spartans and Tom Izzo need to get past the LSU Tigers.
