When Will Wade was suspended, resulting in Tony Benford being named interim head coach, plenty assumed it meant the LSU Tigers would not reach their full potential come the NCAA Tournament.
How wrong some of us were, as the Tigers are about to dance in the madness known as the Sweet 16.
Benford, undoubtedly put in a tough spot by being named interim this late in the season, has approached his job by doing everything he does for the players.
“All I tried to do when I was named interim was just concentrate on the kids. That’s the main thing, the players — making sure they have a great experience,” Tony Benford said. “All we can concentrate on is the moment we’re in today, to be the best that we can be.
“That’s made it easier for me because it’s all about their experience.”
Known as a bit of a bruiser when he played, it appears Benford’s plan to focus on the LSU Tigers players having the best experience possible is working.
