Mick Cronin is apparently trying to build the UCLA Bruins for the long term, as he has already offered 2022 five-star prospect Kijani Wright a scholarship. This news was relayed on Twitter by Stockrisers reporter Jake Weingarten, who mentioned that the Vanderbilt Commodores offered the young man roughly 24 hours earlier.
This is obviously an interesting move given how many years removed Wright’s class is from being recruited by most other programs in earnest. However, there’s good reason to get in on the Wright sweepstakes early.
While plenty of reputable recruiting service outlets do not yet attach stars to members of the 2022 class yet, ESPN does. According to the worldwide leader of sports, not only is Kijani Wright a five-star prospect, but one of the eight best players in the entire 2020 recruiting class.
Nevertheless, Cronin and the UCLA Bruins will likely need to do more than just get in early on recruiting the young man. Turning the program around, quickly if possible, would certainly help their chances.
