The Virginia Cavaliers will be haunted by last year’s NCAA Tournament upset up until this season’s Big Dance gets underway and they presumably make it out of the first-round with a win. Despite that, there’s still reason to celebrate non-NCAA Tournament accomplishments along the way.
On Saturday, Virginia earned a share of the ACC regular season title after defeating a good Louisville Cardinals team. Fans in attendance went wild for the Cavaliers.
Virginia players didn’t want to fail in embracing the moment.
“You can’t take this for granted,” Ty Jerome said after the Cavaliers cut down the nets with most of the 14,000-plus fans remaining in John Paul Jones Arena and cheering each snip. “Like coach (Tony) Bennett said, over an 18-game stretch to only lose two games, you can’t take that for granted. You have to be thankful for that, but we’ve got to stay humble and we have to know what we’re still trying to do.”
Up next for the Virginia Cavaliers is the a double-bye in the ACC Tournament. Let the madness begin.
