The Wake Forest Demon Deacons have a relatively young college basketball team. Following a win over Cornell on Wednesday evening, head coach Danny Manning explained how his team can talk about being ready for the ACC docket as much as they want, but how they won’t know what to fully expect until league-play begins.
After being asked about if his team is ready for the conference schedule, Manning said the following (via The AP):
“No. How could you? You know what I mean? You haven’t been there. You don’t know what it’s like to be married until you’re married. Living together is different. Right? But we talk about it, and the guys who have been here talk about their experiences, too. It will be trial by fire.”
With the victory, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons improved to 7-5 on the season. While not the most impressive record one will see in the sport this season, it does appear Manning’s team is trending in the right direction.
Freshman phenom Jaylen Hoard scored 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the win. Whatever awaits the Demon Deacons in ACC play, they’ll likely only go as far as his development takes them.
